Day Two Recap of the 2022 Mustang World Series

Game Five: Smithfield, VA 12, Youngsville, LA 10


Youngsville, LA had the lead going into the weather delay, but Smithfield, VA pulled out the 12-10 win.


Youngsville’s Andre’ Dubroc stole home to end the top of the first inning, but it did not take long for Smithfield to pull ahead. 


Smithfield scored on a single to tie the game at 1-1. A wild pitch and two errors provided an opportunity for Smithfield to score 3 more runs to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first.


Youngsville answered with five runs of its own in the top of the second inning. A wild pitch allowed them to score. Two singles and a triple by Coen Boudreaux gave Youngsville a 6-4 lead. They extended their lead to 7-4 with a ground out in the third inning.


In the bottom of the third, Smithfield’s Henry Havlin advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored to make it 7-5.


Youngsville scored one run on a ground out and another two on wild pitches to push their lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the fourth.


Smithfield’s defense held Youngsville at 10 runs, allowing their offense to secure a win. Three singles and an error gave Smithfield an 11-10 lead in the bottom of the fourth.


An error by Youngsville in the bottom of the fifth gave Smithfield the opportunity to score another run, locking up a 12-10 win.

Game Six: Erath, LA 11, Deer Park, TX 5


Erath, LA started off strong and did not let a storm delay bother them, beating Deer Park, TX.


Deer Park got on the board first by scoring a run on an error by Erath’s shortstop.


Erath’s offense was eager to respond, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. A line drive single to right field brought in two runs. They later took advantage of an error and a ground out to bring in two more runs, with a single to round out the inning and create a 5-1 lead.


In the top of the second inning, Deer Park cut Erath’s lead. A single brought in one run, with their third run of the game coming from a passed ball.


Albeit during a strikeout, Erath scored a run on a passed ball to maintain its lead at 6-3 in the bottom of the second.


Down three runs, Deer Park scored one run off of an error by Erath’s pitcher to make it 6-4 in the top of the third.


In the bottom of the fourth inning, Erath’s offense came alive again. Some aggressive running on passed balls and errors gave Erath a 10-4 lead. Another passed ball gave them an 11-4 lead after the fifth.


Deer Park scored another run in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough to secure a win for the Texas team.

Game Seven: Orange, CA 10, Laredo, TX 2


Coming off of a record-setting win, Orange, CA won against Laredo, TX with a score of 10-2.


Orange kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. A double brought in one run and set up another off of a single to take a 2-0 lead.


A triple by Joe Velazquez allowed Orange to extend their lead along with a ground out and two  singles to take an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third.


In the top of the fifth inning, Laredo scored two runs on a double, their only runs of the game.


A single and a steal of home by Orange, CA made the score 10-2 in the bottom of the fifth to solidify the win.

Game Eight: LaPorte, TX 0, Tijuana, MX 11


Tijuana, MX started off strong, maintaining that strength for an 11-0 win over LaPorte, TX.


Tijuana scored five runs in the top of the first inning on four singles and a double.


Another double made it a 6-0 game after two innings.


In the third inning, a ground out gave Tijuana another run.


Two doubles and a run on a ground out in the top of the fourth would lock up the game for Tijuana with a final score of 11-0.
